Ta’ Xbiex Seafront Regeneration Project

Ta’ Xbiex Seafront Regeneration Project

The Ta’ Xbiex Seafront Regeneration Project is a public realm upgrade focused on a one-kilometre stretch of promenade along the Ta’ Xbiex waterfront. The project aims to improve the overall quality of the seafront through the embellishment of the promenade and quay area, while also upgrading essential public infrastructure. Works are intended to enhance both the visual appeal and day-to-day functionality of the area.

The intervention includes the installation of new water and street lighting systems, the use of high-quality paving materials such as lava stone and porphyry, and the introduction of a greenway to encourage more sustainable modes of travel. The project is also expected to include traffic changes, with a section of road beyond the Gżira gardens being reduced from two lanes to one.

The regeneration works are being carried out by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) and are intended to complement previous waterfront projects already completed in nearby localities, including Pietà and Msida. More broadly, the project forms part of an ongoing effort to create high-quality, sustainable, and inclusive public spaces along this stretch of coastline. Works were reported as expected to begin in the last week of October.
