Project Description
In a significant effort to safeguard Valletta’s cultural heritage, the Maltese government allocated €700,000 for the restoration of three esteemed churches within the city.
This initiative focused on enhancing the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the basilica of Mt Carmel, the parish church of St Augustine, and the Church of Our Lady of Pilar.
Recognizing the intrinsic value of these architectural treasures, funds were directed towards essential restoration works. The basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel underwent external cupola restoration and the installation of a state-of-the-art lighting system featuring 139 LED lights.
Similar restoration endeavors were pursued at the Church of Our Lady of Pilar, encompassing both external and internal refurbishments. This included the installation of modern LED lights to illuminate the cupola, roof, and facade. St Augustine Church also underwent comprehensive restoration works to preserve its historical significance.
This restoration project underscores the government’s commitment to preserving Malta’s cultural heritage. Through these efforts, Valletta’s churches have been revitalized, ensuring their enduring presence as cherished landmarks within the city.
