- On 11 March 2022
A new library and archives have been inaugurated in Parliament on the underground of the site.
The project was carried out on an investment of four million euros provided by Parliament to the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation to administer the project. During the inauguration, House Speaker, Dr Anġlu Farrugia explained the area used was where the former railway service began and therefore the work carried out was meticulous to ensure the architectural value of the site is maintained.
The major part of the expenditure was dedicated to the archives that contain documents that go back to 1845. In another part, there is a reference library while another space has been dedicated for committee meetings and there is also space for MPs to meet informally.
There are also new offices for the Parliamentary staff that will administer the new installations together with new electronic scanners to be purchased for the historical documents.
