Improved Conditions for GHRC Workers Through New Collective Agreement

A new four-year collective agreement will lead to significant improvements in working conditions and benefit packages for employees of the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC).

“The employees of the Corporation are a key pillar in our vision for the regeneration of the Grand Harbour—regeneration that puts the community front and centre. This agreement also reflects our commitment to ensuring good working conditions and a stable future for all those working in this sector. I’m pleased that this step was achieved through genuine collaboration and with full respect for workers’ rights,” said Minister Miriam Dalli during the signing of the agreement between GHRC and the General Workers’ Union (GWU).

The agreement includes salary increases and improved allowances, enhanced family-friendly measures, and initiatives for professional development, enabling employees to continue strengthening their skills within a modern and inclusive workplace environment.

GHRC CEO Gino Cauchi thanked all parties involved in the negotiations and praised the consistent spirit of cooperation shown throughout. He described the agreement as a clear signal of the Government’s trust in the work carried out by GHRC and its employees, whose efforts are focused on regenerating vast areas across the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett regions.

Riccarda Darmanin, Section Secretary within the GWU, remarked that the negotiations were carried out in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. She expressed her gratitude to all parties involved and also thanked employee representative John Attard for his dedication and continued support for union members.

In recent years, GHRC has delivered several key projects including the regeneration of the Marsamxett area in Valletta, Kalkara’s square and waterfront, the entrance to Senglea, the waterfronts of Pietà and Msida, and the Mall Gardens in Floriana. Several other projects are planned to begin in the coming weeks.
