An investment of €700,000 for the restoration of three churches in Valletta

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg visited the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta, which is among three churches in the capital city undergoing restoration and regeneration with a value of around €700,000 by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation.
Minister Ian Borg said, “Here we can see a great investment towards the conservation of our architectural and cultural heritage. Valletta’s churches are among the treasures we inherited from history and we will continue to invest so future generations can continue enjoying these buildings. The GHRC is implementing priceless work around this part of the capital city, work which also has a social and community spirit. After all, churches are a central aspect of the Maltese community. We will continue working hard on more such projects, where we are investing directly in the country’s standard of living, touristic product and the heritage we will leave for those who will come after us.”
The Basilica of our Lady of Mount Carmel is undergoing external cupola restorations including cleaning and treatment, restoration, repairs, plastering and waterproofing, among other things, as well as a new lighting system with 139 LED lights designed specifically for the church’s cupola and roof.
The Church of Our Lady of Pilar is undergoing external and internal restoration as well as restoration of the principal cupola. Among works, here we’ve had restoration, repairs and plastering on stone, waterproofing, and refurbishment and paint on internal and external aspects of the church. For the church’s lighting system, 25 LED lights designed specifically for the cupola, roof and facade of the church will be used.
St Augustine’s Church is undergoing external and internal cupola restorations, including cleaning and treatment, restoration, repairs, plastering and waterproofing among many other things. For this lighting system 40 LED lights designed specifically for the church’s cupola and facade will be used.
